Akiko uses a technique called Bassen to create this starry sky design. By hand, she applies discharging agents to the area where she intends to remove some of the original colors from the naturally-dyed fabric. Thus, each dress she makes won’t have the stars placed exactly on the same spots as pictured; however, she will make your starry sky look similar to the one you see here as much as possible.

This dress allows you to change its shape using drawstrings at both shoulders and around the waist on one side of the body. There is no “front side” or “back side” of the dress that Aloha Picnic determines. The choice is up to you! You can wear either side as your front side or back side depending on which side you’d like the waist band to be on .

This caftan-style dress is light and comfortable, perfect as a summer dress and/or beach coverup.
